The Peugeot 3008 petrol is gaining muscle with this new engine 1.6 PureTech 180 hp. For those who want to combine SUV and driving pleasure, this 3008 is the # 1 choice.

The Peugeot 3008 is changing its range of engines. After the diesel, it is the turn of the 3008 gasoline to move up a gear with this new 1.6 PureTech 180 hp that comes to replace the 1.6 THP 165 hp disappeared in the summer of 2018 with the entry into force of the standard WLTP. Inaugurated recently by the new 508, this PureTech 180 is offered in association with the automatic gearbox EAT8. With him, 3008 gasoline has never been so powerful.
 Peugeot 3008 PureTech 180 Award
Peugeot distributes this four-cylinder petrol 180 hp on three finishes of the 3008: Allure (€ 36,250), Crossway (€ 37,950) and GT Line (€ 38,350). From the Allure level (model in photo), the standard equipment is complete with GPS, hands-free access and start, reading speed panels, rear view camera and 18-inch wheels. In short, nothing is missing but those who want to heal the look of their 3008 will switch to the GT Line which adds full LED headlights, perforated leather steering wheel, exterior chrome and black roof.
Climbing to 180 hp, the 3008 petrol equals the most powerful of the 3008 diesels (2.0 BlueHDi 180) for a lower price of € 3,200 with same GT Line finish. In other words, the 3008 BlueHDi 180 is to be reserved for big rollers and it keeps the exclusivity of the finish GT whose running gear receive a more dynamic typing.
At the wheel of the 3008 gasoline 180 hp
A powerful gasoline engine and an automatic transmission often work together for driving pleasure. The 3008 is no exception to the rule. It is conducted with the fingertips, reacts promptly and its mechanics plays muted. It's very nice in town where this 3008 is appreciated for its silence and responsiveness at startup. In these conditions, there are minor grievances: the operation of Stop & Start would benefit from being more discreet and there are some jolts of box at low speeds. Nothing serious.

When the road clears, the PureTech 180 brings some driving energy, especially when you activate the Sport mode: better engine responsiveness and faster EAT8 gearbox. We can however do without this mode in everyday life because the reserve of power is sufficient for a dynamic driving. In the absence of a real temperament because of a too smooth operation, the PureTech 180 engine shows efficiency and it spins the perfect love with the box EAT8. Fortunately, because this 8-speed box is often used during road reminders, on the long ramps of the highway and on winding courses.

The box here compensates for the low value of the torque for a 180 hp engine: 250 Nm, it is only 20 Nm more than the 130 PureTech 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder, and far from the 400 Nm of the 2.0 BlueHDi 180. The diesel thus retains the advantage of greater flexibility and greater strength in raises. It also keeps the hand side consumption: count on average 8.5 l with gasoline 180 hp mixed use, when the diesel remains easily under 7 l / 100 km. And this 3008 confirms that SUV gasoline and highway do not mix: the flow exceeds the 9 l / 100 km at the speed and it climbs quickly in case of a pace a little faster or a headwind.

Competition of the 3008 PureTech 180
Gasoline is making its way into compact SUVs and automakers are fine-tuning their offer to meet demand. The 3008 PureTech 180 has its counterpart at Citroën with the C5 Aircross equipped with the same engine. Less dynamic, the C5 Aircross catches up with superior comfort, a better place for the family and a tighter price.
Renault is also playing the tight fare card with its Kadjar equipped with the new 1.3 TCe 160 hp EDC7 box on the occasion of its restyling. But the Renault is notch below in presentation, finish and driving pleasure. Another star in the segment, the Volkswagen Tiguan must be content with 150 hp with its 1.5 TSI to limit its price. More spacious and more practical than the 3008, German is less lively on the road.
